We Got Slated

I noticed a sudden jump in visitor numbers to El Blogador over the past day or so. It turns out that a Slate article linked to my piece yesterday on the Armenian Genocide. Well that's my name put on the USA's banned visitors' list now ;)

any sign of Margaret Ritchie making a decision on the UDA funding we must be coming on 70 days soon...vote for a stronger sdlp remember that ould line...

Margaret will make her decision in accordance with the law and having considered the evidence before her. Better a right decision than a hasty one.

Meanwhile the murdering UDA get public money to top up their drug dealing an extortion coffers.

Imposing deadlines and then not having the bottle to follow through just makes her look weak not strong as she promised. It must be the time of year when strong politicians lose their grit and determination.

BTW elmat what would the right decision be in your opinion.

Clearly you didn't read what I said.

what was she doing over the 60 days if she has to wait now 67 days and counting..any chance of you answering the question before the decision because after the decision you will have to take the party line.. UDA still collecting public money, still drug dealing, still extorting, intimidating, running brothels. these people do not deserve on penny of our money. The Minister foe Social Development should stop this joke now.

Oakleaf (Seán?)-

The 60 days was the testing period. That is now complete. The information is now presumably being assessed, and a legally sound decision will be taken. As I said, it's better to have the right decision rather than a hasty one.

And no, I don't think the money should have been given out in the first place, but unfortunately it was a run-of-the-mill idiotic direct rule decision which was legally binding and already in place by the time power was devolved, and the Minister has had to operate within it.

Well if that is the case why give a 60 day deadline that couldn't be kept. She should have called Jackie and co in on the quiet and said this is the deal sort it or lose it. Instead she now looks rather foolish especially if she doesn't take the money away. Or is the deadline now pushed back until the 11/11/07. Do you remember the the hint Frankie was throwing about last week. If so she will be surely fed up with Brussels by that stage. Thats what we always needed strong decisive government.

Oakleaf,

It sounds like Ritchie (who, for the record, I don't like) is merely following procedure.

She has finally moved

Yes. And Robbo is not impressed.

Maybe he wants Ulster Awakes (or whatever his er "group" were called) to get some dosh too!

Its quite interesting how many non-nationalist people admire Ritchie for this. People as different as David Vance and David Ford were endorsing this 100%.
